WS TP Fails to compile on kernel 3.10.0-0-generic [SOLVED]

Host:  Ubuntu 13.10 kernel 3.10.0-0-generic

VMware modules fail to build on this kernel

The end of the vmware-installer log

   Virtual ethernet                                                   failed

The full vmware-installer log attached as a .tar file.

Can the kernel engineers work on this??  Guess it has to be done before the final release but it would be nice earlier.

There is a patch for the 3.10 rc kernel posted on the WS 9.0.2 forum but the author (if I read him correctly) seems to say he doesn't need the vmblock module which won't work for me.

Are you able to open WS if you try to run it as administrator? Try opening workstation as administrator ( right click on workstation exe and run as admin.

Are you using any firewall apps on host?

You may also try uninstalling workstation 9 and perform removal of all left out trace files as described in following article

Can you identify how I will know that the problems is fixed?

Is this something that one has to wait for the next major or minor version upgrade?

Is this something that comes out in patches.

If so are these fixes proactively communicated?

Is there a way for me to get on a list to be informed when this is resolved?

Fixed known issues typically are reported in the Release Notes and KB although some fixed issues will also be posted in the forums by VMware Employees, usually in the primary thread where the issue was first discussed.  Because the next major release is in beta VMware developers are probably focusing more on it and a fix may appear in the next major release before a point release of the current GA release.  We will just have to wait and see how VMware handles this issue.  Also VMware does not typically use patches per se and puts out a core update or the full installer package as an update and if you haven turned off the Updates preference then VMware Fusion should notify when an update is available.  Lastly there is no specific list that I know of to be placed on to be notified however if you're tracking the thread I linked in my first reply you should receive an email if you have email notifications turned on in your forum preferences.

Definitly sounds like missing permissions on the export.

Also, did you follow the VNX techbook - there are VERY specific filesystem options you need to have to get the best performance out of NFS.

Which  version of Vmware are you running.

Do you have vmware tools installed in the virtual machine?

And can you be more specific about the exact symptoms and how long they last, and when they appear, before you shut down, or after you reboot the virtual machine?

How much memory do you have allocated to the vm?

You can use the vmware-vdiskmanager utility to change they type of disk - from your current type 1 (growable split) to either of the other 3 main types.  The utility is in the folder where Workstation is installed - run it with no parameters for help/syntax/examples.

I believe I am running 9.0 I'll find out for sure after I re-install it again doing that right now because my graphics crashed.

Okay so this is what happens. I fully install windows xp sp3 and everything works fine, I can isntall games and they work perfectly fine. If I exit vmware workstation, if I reboot the computer, if I do anything with restarting workstation it will cause a 10-20 second graphic lag spike, basicly my games completely freeze, and then resume but play very fast for a couple seconds, back to normal, and then I get the 10-20 second lag spike again. Again, this only happens if I exit workstaion or reboot my computer (which obviously restarts workstation). Oh and I have 512 mbs allocated to the vm, but it doesn't make sense that it works perfectly fine until I exit workstation or reboot my pc.
